Hey guys!
I wanted to pop in real quick and tell you about something that I found today while i was doing a little online shopping.
Did you know that you can order things from IKEA ONLINE?! Some of you may think I'm crazy for being excited about this because you have known about it for a long time, but I had no idea!!
See, we have an IKEA right here in Houston. Every summer I have always had to pep myself up to make the trek to the store, wind my way through that never-ending aisle and search (and sometimes dig) for these magazine files that I buy every year. The traffic, the parking, the crowds, the self-checkout... it's a LOT and I just have to be in the right mood for all of it. So far this summer, I have NOT been in the mood! But to my surprise, I realized I could by them online and have them shipped right to my door! Genius!
I guess this is what I get for my lack of research! The last time I tried to order these online was two years ago and I wasn't able to do it. Since then, I've just forced myself to go to the actual store and buy them. I cannot tell you how much it excites me that I can just order them from home! If you have ever been out and about in Houston in the summer, you understand, too!!
These little babies are irreplaceable for me. I don't know what I'd do without them! In my classroom, we call them our "book boxes" and they hold all of our language arts supplies. Because I have team taught for the past three years, they are the perfect solution for storing the students' materials without filling up the desks. I love them.
Last year I even added some simple ribbon and star cutouts to them last year. The students' names were written on the stars and surprisingly, most of the students still had an intact star at the end of the year!
Moral of the story: if you aren't lucky enough to have an IKEA store close by, just know that you may be able to order some products online!!!
And if you haven't checked out the Teacher Talk Forum yet, head on over and join in the conversation! Tell us all about yourself and your must-haves for back to school!
Have a great day!
IKEA is very overwhelming!! It seems endless! And, it's like a money pit! You can always find something cheap and cute you think you need!! Ahhhhh! We are actually heading there on Saturday...I haven't been in a couple of years but sometimes I need to see things in person to be sure if it's what I really think it is! I'm glad you found these online though! That's a huge help! I used to use these as book boxes too but my kids tore them up! How do you keep them from having books fall out?

Amanda,
ReplyDeleteI totally hear you about IKEA! You definitely have to be in the mood for it!
I am a HUGE stickler about our book boxes. I make the kids practice (a LOT) pulling them off the shelf correctly as well as holding them correctly as they walk back and forth to their desks. They HAVE to hold the bottom with one hand and hold the top with the other. Most of the kids were pretty good with this and their boxes lasted all year. Of course, I had to replace a few, but others I just taped up at the bottom and they seemed to do fine.
The ribbon thing actually helped tremendously. The kids would pull the box by the ribbon and it saved the tops from tearing off.
As far as books falling out, we never really had that problem. If a student had a book that wouldn't fit in their book box, they just stood the book up next to the box both at their desk and when they put their things back on the shelf.
Hope this helped!!!
Kelly
I absolutely love Ikea, but it is definitely a money pit. I have had 7 sets of the magazine bins for weeks now, but just need to take the plunge. I really liked hearing how you kept them in good shape. Thank you!
