Help! I Need Ideas!

Is it seriously only Tuesday?!? This week is going to be a long one!!

Before I get off on a tangent about how D.O.N.E my kids are, I have a dilemma and I am hoping someone out there has some advice for me!

This year our school is not making yearbooks. We never make money on them and it's a lot of work for very little gain. I put in HOURS of work on the yearbooks last year and we sold less than 50. Boo! However, my kiddos were really disappointed when somehow the topic of yearbooks was brought up in conversation (don't ask me why or how) when we were *supposed* to be discussing why crocodiles lay eggs. ;)

Anyway, I'm thinking that maybe there is a way I can make them myself and give them to the kids as a special surprise the last week of school. SO-  I need some help! Do you have any tips, suggestions, ideas that would help me with this task??? I need something that's not too incredibly expensive... I would like for the "yearbooks" to be in color, but at this point, I'll settle for whatever! It may just have to be black and white with construction paper covers... whatever I can do!

If you have ANY suggestions, please let me know!!!!! Thanks a million!!!

Hang in there... just a few more weeks!!!

  1. I say make a digital yearbook - make a slideshow and burn copies.

  2. I was going to say the same thing! You could make it in Powerpoint which is very easy to decorate according to different themes. You could put the CD in a little autograph booklet so they can all sign each others, if you usually do that. You are so sweet to do this for them! Good luck and let us know what you decide.

  3. We do the DVD's with our 5th graders and they love it! One year I also brought in cardstock, a giant pack of scrapbook paper, and multiple copies of photos from throughout the year (I made sure each child got about 6-7, some whole class photos and some of just them and their friends). If you use coupons (I'm obsessed!)for each item, the paper is really cheap from Joann's and you will have a ton left over. I gave the kids 3 pages of cardstock and they folded it in half and stapled to make a book. Then they got their pictures and picked out what paper they wanted and cut and glued and designed to their heart's content! The little scrapbooks turned out realllly cute and it was nice because each one was personalized to them, there wasn't a lot of random photos of people they didn't know. Again, coupons for CVS or Walgreens and your photos are super cheap too, lol. Just the fact that you are doing SOMETHING for them will make their day no matter what it is :o) You're such an amazing teacher! Sorry it's so long but if you have any questions feel free to email me girl!

  4. I like the idea of the disc! When I think about my population, many of my kids dont have computers. So one suggestion that I was gonna say was a memory book. You could put in class photos kinda like a scrapbook format and make color or bw copies.

  5. Thanks, guys!!! I usually do a slideshow for the kids, but I'm not sure how many of my kiddos have DVD players and computers... I think I may go with the scrapbook idea! I love scrapbooking, anyway, and I think the kids will have a blast with it!!!

Thank you all so much for your help and support! I love this little world of blogging and knowing that I have amazing teachers to offer advice when I need it. Thanks so much!!!!!

  6. When I used to teacher younger grades I would make a classroom yearbook. I would take pictures of each kiddos at the beginning, middle, and end of the year, so they could see how they grew. I would also dedicate a page to each special event/activity in the classroom and fill it with pictures & a special quote or saying. I also always made sure to include an autographs page & some kind of all about me page that they could fill out to be able to look back at in the years to come. PowerPoint is the easiest program to work with. Let me know if you have any questions or need anymore ideas... have fun with it!!
