The Day the Teacher Lost Her Voice!

Hey guys!

I can't believe it's been so long since I blogged last!

This one won't be long, but I just have to share this!

For the past week, my allergies, at least I think that's what this is, have been slowly attacking my voice. Each day my voice got weaker and weaker and by Friday I could barely whisper. I felt completely fine, I just couldn't speak normally. It was so frustrating!!

So, on Friday, I gave up! With thanks to technology, I turned on my projector and pulled up good ol' Microsoft Word. I got the kiddo's attention by using my handy bell, and directed them to the screen. I then proceeded to type my explanation- that I had lost my voice and it was extremely painful when I tried to speak, so I would not be talking at all. I typed everything I would have said out loud and typed the directions for the assignment- even down to "Go!" For the rest of the day, the kids had to READ everything I would normally say- it was great!!! I had a student read the book I had chosen about Martin Luther King aloud to the class and another student ask the class to give character traits that described him and record their responses on an anchor chart. I sat back and watched!

The kids were very sympathetic and I think they really got a kick out of the complete change of pace. And the best part? They actually spent the entire day reading! Ha!

I think I might just have to fake it another day in the future- it was just too great!!! If I wasn't so lazy right now, I would get my phone and show some pictures, but that will just have to wait until tomorrow!

Have a great Sunday! Enjoy the day off tomorrow!!!

  1. I love this post!...you were able to rest your voice while your kiddos practiced reading all day long. Win-win! Chalk on up for the teacher! Enjoy the day off tomorrow. :)

Check her out if you ever want to change things up a bit! I'm sorry I couldn't put the link here in the post, I don't know how to make links here!
